PhD (Social Work)

For more than 20 years, through her private practice – Forensic assessment Intervention Service (FAIS), Dr Powell has worked with adults and adolescents either in, or at risk of entering, the criminal justice system, along with their families and support services.  She is the recipient of the Highly Commended, Department of Human Services, Robin Clark Memorial Award 2003 for ‘outstanding service in making a difference with children, young people and families.’  Dr Powell has extensive experience in crime prevention, offender rehabilitation, sex offender, and behaviour change group work programs. Her PhD thesis examined the link between teenage high school experiences and a trajectory into crime for young male offenders. Currently, Dr Powell provides therapeutic interventions to adolescents and adults experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, grief and trauma. She also has expertise in the provision of therapeutic services to war veterans and their families.
